OF THE BASQUE BELLOWS
Korrontzi folk band (Basque Country, 2004) was formed by trikitixa player Agus Barandiaran. His purpose was to give Basque Country folk music and Basque ancestral and traditional sounds a contemporary aspect but always within the scope of a music based on the trikitixa (Basque diatonic accordion) and other ethnic instruments like txalaparta or alboka, all this also accompained by modern technic, with the help and the union of those more modern instruments such mandolin, bass guitar, electric contrabass and percussions.
Korrontzi had five albums published along his twelve years on stages and the sixth is coming soon, in november 2015. It is a CD-DVD under the name of “Korrontzi dantzan”, a project that collects the last years sounds, contributor musicians and the best dancers of the Basque Country.
During these years, Korrontzi has brought their culture, language, dance and music all around the world, visiting so different countries and festivals such as Belgium, EEUU, Rumania, Cabo Verde, Irland, Brazil, Malaysia, Grece, Italy, ... And they had been honored with awards and mentions like “World Music Charts 2014”, “World Music Charts 2015” or “Best European band, Eurofolk”. Summarysing, Korrontzi is a group of Basque music that leaves no one indifferent, with his strength and energy is able to transmit sounds from ancient times to the new trends in folk.
